It helps to explain the relation of mind brain and body at a granular level as I work as a somatic therapist, teacher, and scholar seeking to understand the ancient pursuit of a physics of life. In particular the perceptual dimension of the framework is quite helpful. A fully developed physics of life involves the mechanics of physical movement as a felt, intuitive activity. We should be able to name this clearly, in kinesiological terms—as a matter of common sense. Can you? Understanding the mechanics and their historical context in the way Professor Friston suggests is very helpful. The active inference framework provides needed first principles but lacks an understanding of motor plant. This is a major problem. For this reason it remains limited to a computational approach. Professor Friston and the general consensus seem only to grasp a mental form of embodiment and enactive inference. I am seeking to point out that major lacunae and offer the simple anatomy as we understand it today for discussion and afferent self confirmation. ## Learning Needs Open discussion about its relevance to life, actual genuine life—our own lives and the world we live in, especially in light of the Polycrisis. Given the level of global surprisal, shouldn’t you be updating your model in some very basic ways? This really should be a conversation that is already well underway.
