## Submitted abstract

This Symposium 2026 tutorial covers Active Inference from various angles based on the experience over several years with teaching and applying Active Inference. It begins with a brief descriptive rehearsal of fundamental ideas and principles akin to other previous tutorials to establish a foundation for the audience. However, this will be followed by a tour through various textbook materials and publications, past and present, to emphasize crucial areas for understanding modelling and application areas. This tutorial will include visual and discursive illustrations of a range of model classes for different use-cases; discussions of existing and under-development software libraries; and some frontiers in modelling for identifying directions for further research applications which can be especially valuable for the broader research community in 2026 onward. Topics will include, non-exhaustively, the Bayesian brain hypothesis and behavioralism versus partial observability and modelling internal states; principles of exploration, learning, and novelty; fundamental discrete and continuous models in Active Inference and their relationship; computational psychiatry and its significance to other domains; the FEP and its historical and practical relationship to Bayesian model comparison; software libraries including SPM, pymdp, RxInfer, RGMs, and other developments; hierarchical and hybrid models; and structure learning.
